According to statistics, every hour one person dies because of eating disorders. So, here are 11 signs of eating behavior problems. Such disorders include anorexia and bulimia, but also drunken eating, permanent dieting or detoxing, and so on. The causes of the development of eating disorders are not entirely clear. Seems like genetics, environmental and social factors might play a role. This problem concerns people of any age and gender.

#1: You don’t like your figure

Do you feel happy with the reflection in the mirror? Or you think that you have too thick legs or other imperfect parts of the body? Such thoughts have a negative impact on your mood, self-confidence and health. In fact, they often lead to eating behavior problems. And the most important reason for the negative attitude towards your body is the influence of unrealistic stereotypes about beauty. Fortunately, a good therapist and a bit of physical activity may help a lot.

#2: You are embarrassed to eat and drink in public

Fear of taking food in front of others can harm both socialization and quality of nutrition. The unwillingness to eat in public can be caused by fear of condemnation for the fact that you eat too much, or choose wrong products, or do not know how to do it beautifully. #3: Weakness or dizziness follow you

The lack of nutrients and energy may negatively affect the basic functions of the body, leading to physical and mental fatigue. Moreover, long-term starvation leads to problems with bones, muscles, and metabolic disorders.

To get rid of these feelings, many people use so-called cleansing methods, causing vomiting after eating or stimulating digestion with medicines. Regular use of such drugs leads to serious problems: dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, diseases of the teeth, digestive tract, kidneys and heart.

#6: You are constantly dieting

If you constantly count calories, weigh yourself several times a day and always try new diets, it’s already an eating disorder. Maintaining a healthy diet is important, but overdoing is one of eating behavior problems itself. If weight makes you anxious, better consult a doctor, rather than trying to solve the problem yourself.

#7: You exercise too much

The obsessive desire to exercise is also a sign of an eating disorder. Still, everybody needs physical activity to feel well. The WHO recommends moderate intensity aerobic exercise for 150-300 minutes a week and power workout twice a week.

#8: You have irregular menstruation

Women with a severe lack of weight, at least ten percent below normal, might have problems with their cycle along with eating behavior problems. Maintaining a menstrual calendar is quite a good idea. Such calendars help to notice negative changes as early as possible, and talk to your doctor.

#9: Meals end very quickly in your fridge

If the food in the house ends earlier than planned, and you constantly go to the refrigerator to grab something, this is also a sign of problems with your eating habits. Try to determine which foods you eat immediately, and set certain limits. At the same time, a complete ban is not the best solution.

#10: You criticize others for their eating habits

Your own food seems so perfect that you allow yourself to openly criticize the nutrition of others? Think twice. One of the basic factors of a healthy relationship with food is the pleasure of it.

#11: You skip meals and do not feel hungry

Irregular nutrition negatively affects the body’s response to feelings of hunger and satiety. In this case, there may be a feeling that one constantly wants to eat, or vice versa. To make meals more regular and pleasant, plan them, and make them more beautiful.
